Work Tourism is Not to be Missed
As an entrepreneur, travel is part of the job. Selling UK assembled diesel generators to supply power to all parts of the world demands travel to some remote and under appreciated locations, many of which you would never visit as a tourist.
Diesel generators are used extensively around the world outside of Europe, many areas don’t have mains power and this alone means they need these units as the main power source. The main components of a diesel generator are actually not manufactured worldwide, they are limited to just a few locations.
Some of my most memorable trips are to Kenya, has the most stunning landscape. Twice I have been fortunate enough to go on a safari, which is a breath-taking experience every budding traveller should take the time out to undertake. Driving between cities in Kenya enabled me to stand with half my body in the northern hemisphere and the other half in the south.
Vietnam, again out of the cities has green undergrowth and flowing streams never seen before. A whole new culture and experience and foods that cannot be tried in most of the west.
South Africa – Durban – an amazing city on the coast. A customer who took me to the local harbour and yacht club to eat freshly caught barracuda and dance the night away. Some experiences money can’t buy and those are with the people you like – it’s so much better if you can strike a good customer relationship, entertaining and travelling in a car is an ideal opportunity to build a bond.
Food is of course an essential part of travel – eating Spider crabs in Singapore, goat in the hills of Nairobi and deep fried sweet and sour fish in China. The experiences are unmissable.
Travelling alone isn’t as fun as when you can share it with a loved one – but it can be enjoyed – you have to get out and see whatever you have the time to see and enjoy the view as you travel around. You do also come across some tourist ho-spots as well – the water falls in Ocha Rios in Jamaica – an absolute must for anyone visiting the Caribbean island and the beaches of Mombasa – white sand, blue sea and scorching hot sun.
It always helps if you have time – which I seldom do these days – always too busy to do and see the things you want to, but especially when visiting somewhere new, its essential you make some time – you may never get another chance. Taking a train at midnight from Lahore to Islamabad wasn’t something I thought I would ever do – but it’s a great experience. Travel is after all what you make it.
